next is JOHN LITTLE.........  second child and first son ....... looks like named after both of his grandfathers

Found his christening information........  18 Jul 1832. so that shows one year and a few months in between first child Mary and John.

Found John in the 1841 UK Census only............. he was not in the 1851 UK census with his parents. Not able to find him alone or in another household, but not sure I would recognize him at this point. He would be only 18 but I think children left home or started work a lot younger than they do today. He only lived till April 1861 so he may have died too early in the year to have been in1861 census. But what about the 1851 UK census? another item on my to-do list.

I believe this to be my John's death information but I am taking the source information to the LIBRARY with me in February and see if it has more information.

Wonder about a a tombstone? Maybe if I find where the parents are buried I might find some of the children.

What do I know about John? ..................

so which sibling should I start with..........  I know you are saying just start at the beginning and work your way through...........  OK!

                           Mary Little,
first child and first daughter of Isaac and Jane (Mounsey) Little.

Mary Little married a man named John Strong. This is all I know about this couple right now.

I did find christening information about Mary.

I have looked for marriage information, birth/christening for John Strong.....  and of course census records but nothing so far. When you know little about a person it is hard to identify them among dozens of couples with the same names and same dates.......  Something will open up sooner or later.

Ok,  what I do know about Mary?
.........appears she is named after her mothers mothers
.........she was born in 1831 in Bassenthwaite Cumberland, England
........first child and first daughter of Isaac and Jane (Mounsey) Little
.........she is in the 1841 UK census under her parents Isaac and Jane Little/ Cumberland, England.
.........she was 10 years old according to the 1841 UK census
..........in the 1851 UK Census she is no longer listed with her parents
.........1851 at 20 years of age has she already gotten married, or working somewhere else, or died.

I am going to work on the assumption until I can/cannot prove it that she married this John Strong before the 1851 UK census came out OR that she was a servant in another home first and then married John Armstrong
.........NO marriage date
.........NO death dates for either one so nothing to add there.
Mary and Little and John and Armstrong are all such common names that I will need to know more in order to make a good choice but................

Matrilineal Monday - MARRIAGE of Isaac and Jane (Mounsey) LITTLE and more

..........continuing with LITTLE'S- my Mothers Fathers side

Found this Marriage information for Isaac and Jane LITTLE...........

England Marriages 1538-1973 for Isaac LITTLE

Groom's Name: Isaac LITTLE
Bride's Name: Jane MOUNSEY
Marriage Date & Place: 2 Jan 1831 Bassenthwaite, Cumberland, England

Indexing project #M04301-2/ system origin - England-ODM / source file # 90561

...........and then last night I found this information on Jane Mounsey's parents marriage... John & Mary (Skelton) Mounsey .........how thrilling to be able to expand back with more information and locate another woman's maiden name. I am absolutely thrilled to be able to put a name to another first name only woman. Take that UNKNOWN off and replace it with Mary Skelton. Nice!!! So now there is another SURNAME to research (sometime)

I did look for Isaac Little's parents marriage information but didn't find anything..... John and Jane (Hudson) Little- I'll add this to my LIBRARY to-do research list.

Sunday Census- Following Through the Census

......continuing with LITTLE'S in England in the 1800's

LITTLE'S are my Mothers Fathers side..................

I was not able to find a 1831 United Kingdom census but here are the 1841-1851- & 1861 which seems to account for all 10 children over the years.............. but a closer look shows that JAMES (1848-1855) does not appear on any of the census and he should have appeared only on the 1851. Big question, what happened? I need to go back to the original document and see if I left him off or he was on the another page.

**All children born between 1831 and 1853.
Isaac and Jane both passed away before the 1871 Census. All children out on their own, one way or another.
John, William, Jane Eliza, and James also had passes away before the 1871 UK census.
Hudson sailed off to New Zealand hoping for gold in 1864....  so before 1871 UK census.

**I did find Mounsey in the 1871 UK Census

I have been told that Mounsey came to America as a young man in 1872. (I have found him in the 1880 through the 1940 US Census- note census was taken in April 1940 and Mounsey died in July 1940)

**I did locate Joseph married in the 1881 UK Census but not sure about the 1871 except he might have been a servant- I found a couple of single men about the right age from the right area of England but not sure. I searched the 1891 UK Census and did not find him - I would have thought that the last 2 sons and maybe all three would have been listed under their parents in 1891 but did not find them YET.

1881 UK Census..

**So this still leaves Mary, Anne, Isaac.........
I was told that Mary married a man named John Strong but no luck locating them.
I was told that Anne married a man named Mr. Todd but no luck locating them.
AND I have NO information about Isaac........  but I am still looking.

Sibling Saturday - Continuing with the "Little Family"

Since I devoted all of December to my Great Grand Uncle Hudson LITTLE who was born in England, moved to New Zealand, married, & lived his life in New Zealand. I do still have a little more research to do on Hudson and his family, so I've got my list of research to be done in Salt Lake City when I go in February

I am going to continue with the same family but the other siblings.............. who will that be?
OK let's start at the beginning again with Hudson's parents and the rest of his siblings.............

reminder "LITTLE'S" are my Mothers Fathers line
PARENTS
Isaac (1806-1863) & Jane (Mounsey) (1812-1867) LITTLE   [2nd Great Grandparents ]

Siblings of Hudson's.........
Mary LITTLE (1831- ?) -          [Great Grand Aunt]
John LITTLE (1832-1861)         [Great Grand Uncle]
Anne LITTLE (1835-?)              [Great Grand Aunt]
William LITTLE (1837-1843)     [Great Grand Uncle]
Isaac LITTLE (1840-?)               [Great Grand Uncle]
HUDSON LITTLE 1843-1934) [Great Grand Uncle]
Jane Eliza LITTLE 1846-1867)   [Great Grand Aunt]
James LITTLE 1849-1855)        [Great Grand Uncle]
Mounsey LITTLE (1851-1940) ......................................[My Great Grandfather]
Joseph LITTLE (1852-1932)     [Great Grand Uncle]

Imagine 10 children! It seems to be the norm back in these days. AND yikes! no I can't imagine having and raising that many children. I would be overwhelmed. Two children was just right for me.

I see that there are 1 & 2 & 3 years in between each child's birth. Unfortunately it does appear  that several didn't live very long -

John, the second child, was only 31 when he passed.
William, the fourth child, was only 6 years old when he passed.
Jane Eliza, the seventh child,  was only 21 when she passed.
James, the eighth child,  was only 7 years old when he passed.

I don't have a death date yet for Mary, Anne and Isaac so don't know how long they lived.
Yet Hudson, Mounsey and Joseph lived into their 80's and 90's.
However their parents, Isaac and Jane only lived into their mid 50's.

........and at this point it looks like Hudson (my great grand uncle) as a young man sailed off to New Zealand and Mounsey (my great grandfather) as a young man sailed off to America. I don't think any of the other siblings left England, but we will see as we go through each one.

I just went through the FamilySearch Catalog and found the births of all 10 of the children. I feel good about that........... here is one example .......

Now I can add these 10 to my list for Salt Lake City .........  get copies of the originals. I hope, anyway. It says it is from an Indexing Project (Batch) Number..........  so I am thinking they are only in the indexing project but the documents have not been digitized yet. Anyone know for sure?

I found one birth/christening document that could also be from this family but they are not listed in my family file or not seen on any census either. This child might not be part of this family, OR the child might not have lived till the 1841 census. ADD or NOT??

I looked and Anne, William and Isaac plus this Jane were all born in Sebergham, Cumberland, England. So I can't rule this Jane out yet. ALL children were born in Cumberland, England.
John was born in Watermillock, Cumberland, England
Mary, Hudson, Jane Eliza, James, Mounsey, and Joseph were all born in Bassenthwaite, Cumberland, England

I can see I need a map to see how close or far away these towns are to each other. I tried to look at maps on WorldGenWeb and was disappointed. I do see that Cumberland is on the northwest coast below Scotland.  I do have an idea where all  the villages/parishes are located but I am very visual and need a good detailed map to refer too. I will add this map to my research list - Great Britain and Cumberland.

Father Isaac LITTLE was a teacher and school master (from 1851 & 1861 UK census) and 1861 UK census shows Jane Mounsey LITTLE was a school mistress. So they could have moved several times when teaching at different schools which would account for the children being born in different towns/villages but all within Cumberland. .
